Sure, you may have attended one or two posh, expensive weddings — but we can say with confidence that you've probably never attended a wedding like this.
It was the ceremony of Said Gutseriyev and Khadija Uzhakhovs, and it cost about $1 billion dollars to throw. Paid for by the groom's billionaire father, the wedding was held in Moscow and hosted over 600 (yes, 600) guests. Dad Mikhail Gutseriyev is an oil and real estate tycoon and the 16th richest person in Russia — he's also the 205th richest person in the world.
Naturally, the wedding had to be a massive, lavish affair, but not everyone was on board. According to reports, the bride was "chosen" from a common family, and had to adhere to rigid guidelines set by the Gutseriyev family (she had to be a virgin, had to be young, and had to be shy, etc). The whole thing is totally bizarre, but one thing is certain: The pictures from this wedding are equally as bonkers.
The bride wore a couture dress that reportedly cost about $1 million.
It's gorgeous, but doesn't it look a little bit…heavy?
Here, the groom chats with Sting, who was hired to perform at the ceremony.
The decor was just as elaborate as you may imagine.
Perhaps most impressive were the seemingly endless floral arrangements.
Making a cake (or cakes?) for over 600 people is no small feat.
And each guest got one of these ornate boxes to take home.
Traditional dancers were employed to entertain the guests.
And of course, Sting had his performance.
But there was more: The guests were also treated to a surprise performance by Jennifer Lopez.
All in all, this elaborate affair was clearly one for the books. And there's more: Word has it that a second celebration will be taking place in London soon.
